Figuring out the right pump for your needs

If you’ve watched all the earlier episodes, you now know a lot about pumps. But how can you be sure what you need?  Work through it in steps.

First think about the main purpose of the pump, and your specific application.

Water vs Trash

Will you be moving clean water, the specialty of a Honda Water Pump, or is the water likely to be dirty and filled with debris? In which case a Honda Trash Pump is the way to go.  

Flow rate

If you’ll be mainly moving water horizontally, or draining a flooded area, the flow rate becomes more critical. You’ll need a higher flow rate to pump large volumes of water quickly and get the job done efficiently.

Head size

However, if you’ll be lifting water to a higher elevation, irrigating, or pumping water into a tall tank, for instance, the head size becomes a priority. The higher the head size, the more power the pump needs.

You’ll want to find the right balance between flow rate and head size.
